Westinghouse Life-Line Motors

I thought i would contribute an old Westinghouse Life-Line Motor brochure I came upon in one of our filing cabinets. It has historical value if nothing else. The brochure is dated August 1949, and ironically some of these motors still exist in industry today, I know that because I've actually seen them. Here is much of what is in the brochure:



DIRE€T-CURRENT LIFE-LINE MOTORS-TYPE SK are designed for general service. They are unsurpassed for dependability.

• HORSEPOWER RANGE-1 to 30
• FRAMES-203-365
• WINDING-Series, Shunt or Compound
• VOLTS-115, 230, 550 or 600
• TEMPERATURE LIMITS 40 degrees C. Continuous Open - Constant Speed.
  

The new Life Line motor retains the basic design and construction of earlier SK Motors perfected in years of severe service in mines, mills and general industry.

It has many new and improved features, principle of which is the all-steel construction, resulting in greater strength and compactness.

Ratings built in frames 203 to 365, inclusive, meet all NEMA standardized dimensions and are interchangeable with AC motors built in corresponding frame sizes.

The illustration shows the thoroughness with which these motors are identified. Speed characteristics and type of winding are included. Re-ordering of duplicate motor and purchase of renewal parts made easy due to positive identification.



METHODS OF MOUNTING

The Westinghouse Open Type SK motor can be supplied for various special mountings when ordered. There is a price addition for variations in mounting arrangement.

FLANGE MOUNTING-Type "B" Flange and Face Plate Mounting. For such applications as machine tools and pumps where motors are built in as part of the machine.

VERTICAL M0UNTING - Ring Base, for such applications as pumps, agitators, eta. Motor usually supplied with enclosing covers, either solid or perforated.

OTHER MOUNTINGS - Where special conditions make other methods of mountings desirable, consult your nearest Westinghouse Sales Office for helpful assistance.

This table shows the Westinghouse controls recommended for use with the SK DC motors. it includes the Sentinel breakers, Type DnW De-ion Motor Watchman, De-ion Linestarters, Manual Rheostats, Timestarters, both manual and magnetic starters.
