If you've got the same range and the same switch configuration. I don't see any benefit to AC over DC or vice versa. it just depends on the rest of the circuit your switching.

I had an occasional bis overvoltage alarm on a Baldor drive in my shop but it cleared itself up and never had to deal with it since. Could it have been excessive loading? That may have been your problem.
